Synopsis:
From MJTV comes exclusive interviews and performances with well known stars from your favourite BBC sci-fi serials!

Gareth Thomas is best known for playing Roj Blake on the BBC TV series "Blake's 7" in the late 70s and early 80s.  On this CD you will find:

Interview - Roj Blake, a childhood remembered
What made Roj the man he was? Gareth and Mark discuss their different ideas on the character, his upbringing and family, drawing on clues given in the BBC TV programme.

'Ruined Garden' by Gareth Thomas.
A charming, gentle monologue penned by Gareth and starring Nick Courtney (Brigadier from Dr Who) as a monk from a middle-ages silent order. Exactly what is ruining their vegetable garden?

Interview - Soldiers Of Love and Blake's 7
Gareth and Mark discuss the two sci-fi series, Gareth's character's Hywel, Nermal and ANET and what elements make a drama enjoyable. Includes the advert for the 'Soldier's Of Love' series' own sci-fi show 'Jake's Heaven'

'Is This My Life' by Mark J Thompson
A monologue from Hywel Hammond, 'Soldiers Of Love' listener's favourite. What trauma has left the camp Welsh TV producer shaken but not stirred? Set in 2133 and before the CD series.

'Benedictine' by Gareth Thomas
The second of Gareth's enchanting monologues. What affliction has beset the order? And what is the connection with Brother Francois' gift from the Gallic shores?

'Jake's Heaven' - The Children of Nylon
Another tongue-in-cheek 'Galactovision TV' advert for this 'Blake's 7' pastiche series. Stars Nick Courtney as grumpy computer IMAC and Gareth as The Vibrator's Annodised Neural Electrical Terminal

Reviews

I received The Actor Speaks CD yesterday and I've already listened to it. The interviews were very informative, open and honest. The two monologues by Gareth were different but by the end of them they were very good. Brilliant idea to use Nick Courtney, his voice just suited them down to a tea. The SOL section with Hywel was inspired, Gareth really does enjoy playing this character. Gareth is Hywel! The Jake's Heaven section was brilliant. I would buy a CD with a full episode on if you got the chance to do it. Will you be doing any more Actor Speaks in the same format i.e interview, self penned story, SOL back story about one of their characters. The formula really works well.

Would I recommend this CD to Horizon members? Yes, definitely. If you're a Blake's 7 fan (and obviously you are, or you wouldn't be reading this!) it's always interesting to have the characters fleshed out and discussed in this way, and I always love to learn more about the talents of the cast that just watching Blake's 7 doesn't always show you. In this CD we see evidence of Gareth's writing skills and I really enjoyed hearing his charming, gentle stories brought to life so well. In fact, though I'd enjoyed reading Blythe Spirits all those years ago, I thought it worked even better as a monologue produced in this way. I'd just love to have heard Gareth himself reading at least one. It will be interesting to see if this really is the first in a series and I'd certainly buy all the others featuring the B7 cast.
